I need to source a 24/48 port switch that is capable of full private vlan support and run at gigabit on all ports. I am confused at the choice and how vague the data sheets are.

I have come across private vlan edge but no real info.

Key features:

24 port and 48 port copper
Vlan and private Vlans (promiscuous and community secondary vlans)
Jumbo frames
Flow control
ACL

Is it possible to get stateful firewall features in a layer 3/4 switch?

I have looked at the 4948 and the 3750 but need a little direction.

Thanks
Si

What are your requirements in more details, what are you trying to accomplish?

a 3750 should suit what you need, but as for firewall features in a layer3/4 switch.. This is not supported to my knowledge and is high advised against even if it could do it.

This would eat up tons of processor utilization by doing this.

I have an iscsi SAN that needs to run at gigabit. Our current switches do all but pvlans. We need to isolate individual ports to stop one client seeing other clients on the SAN backend.

I have tested a design using Dell 3448s running at 100Mbs so I know that everything is possible. I need to scale up to 1GBs. Been looking at Cisco, Foundary, Extreme, Allied Telesyn but there are just too many. Looking for suitable switches.

I have looked at 3750 and 4948. looking for best choices.

Thanks

There is are also 24- and 48-port versions of the 2960 that do 10/100/1000. I think they do Private VLANs but I don't know what other security features they may be missing that you might require.

I doubt you're going to have much luck finding stateful firewall features in an L2 switch. You're probably going to have to go with a much more expensive L3 switch to get those features.
