What is "private" about a private line? NTP says they're used for selected telephones or power fail transfer equipment but what is private about them? how do they differ from non-private CO trunks that auto-terminate to a DN that I program onto a phone? Is typing YES at the PRIV prompt in LD 16 the only thing that makes it private? Is there any advantage to private line (which I know doesn't require a 9 to dial out) over a regular CO trunk auto-terminating? I'm a bit confused. Thanks.

well as i use the private line is when you want an exclusive line for me, i set the tgar and targ so nobody can take this line
i just dial the acod and get the line

Hello, There's another use to private line. I use this feature to convert it to imaginary number to send this line to a mailbox if nobody answer it.

so what's the difference if I take same CO trunk and just assign an ATDN and put that DN on my phone?

ok if you set a route as private you need a key in your phone configured as PVN and only you can take this line

you set PVN to the boss and PVR to the secretary

i think what you're saying is with a private line i have to put the PRDN as a separate key on the phone, where as with an auto-term I can auto-term it to any existing DN if I don't assign a different one?

boss to sec is better handled with a hot d 4 xxxx key which makes a ringdown between phones, the only time i have recogmended a pvr is for mr bigshot to always have a free two-way trunk.. i have a last resort out of my switch with 4 analog cots. the only way to get there is to dial the acod, they are not pvl to my phone because i don't have a use for an inbound number with almost 500 vacant did numbers.

I understand about the DIDs. What's the benefit of giving Mr. Bigshot a PVR key as opposed to NOT making the route private, auto-terminating it to DN xxxx, and putting xxxx on that phone? Can't he call out over that?

Will a PVR key respond to features like Call Pickup and Transfer? I know that in the Norstar key systems if you made a line "private" then only the one phone would be able to answer or make calls on it. If I have a PVR key on my phone that rings and I'm in a call pickup group with coniglio, can he call pickup my PVR line?

I would think that being "private" that it would only be able to be answered by that one phone, whereas a SCR key could be answered by any other phone in the pickup group. Don't have a working lab switch currently or I'd test it myself.

how can i restrict my private line ?

in case that use a hot line key for emulate a private line, if i programmed a hot d n xxxx yyyy where xxxx is the route access code and yyyy is an single call ringing, and the telephone is restricted (tgar, ncos, cos), when the key is pressed after dial authorization code, obtain reorder tone.

any idea about this.
