I have just had to re-install XP-pro on my PC.

Some folders under My Documents were set to Private prior to the re-install.

Now I cannot get into the folders - I get the error "Access is denied".

I cannot alter the security on the folders, even as an Administrator.

Any ideas ?

:-(

Log in with an account that has administrative capabilities. Then, open windows explorer, Tools, Folder Options, View tab, at the bottom of the Advanced list - uncheck 'Use Simple File sharing'. Now navigate to the folders in question, right click, Properties, Security tab, Advanced, Owner tab and change the owner to yourself. For more info use XP's Help and Support to look up 'take ownership'. You may want to reenable Simple File Sharing when you are done.
