I have had this pinkish box slide up from the bottom right of my screen for the last couple of months. It says "PRIVACYALERT". It contains 2 or 3 links - one of which takes you to some "article" of a wife ceating online ...
Anyways, I running the lastest Norton(8.1) - I've run Adaware almost daily, scanned for trojans... I can't seem to get rid of it or find a program that it is associated with. It's a little wierd as it does not pop up as an Internet Explorer window , but slides up and stays on top of applications like a java app.

Has anyone seen this and been able to remove it?
Thanx - Kevin

From what I can tell, it seems that some people are getting hijakced by a program called SystemSoap. This appears to be an effective way to clean it up (no pun intended):

"1) press "control+alt+delete" this will bring up a list of what programs are currently running on your computer. If there is one called "Soap" click on it and select end task.

2) click on Find, select Files and Folders..., type "soap": this will locate all the files and folders on your comptuer with soap in their title.

3)Select all the files pertaining to system soap (make sure not to select any files you want to keep!): there will be a cookie looking something like this: yourname@systemsoap, a program, and maybe two other items. Delete them, you will be asked if you are sure you want to delete system soap pro because it is a program and it will no longer be able to run if you delete. Say yes, because you don't want it to run anymore (that's what puts the pop up on your computer)."

Hey thanks - I found some cookies but nothing in my processes. I've deleted the items I think are related - Cheers

You might have to resort to Spy-Bot or Ad-aware. Do a search in these forums or online with your fav search for addresses.
Personally, I run Spy-Bot daily.

I've run a search for anything "SOAP" on my PC - found some items related to System Soap and deleted those - there are still some MSSOAP items... and it'still there!

I've run spy-bot and adaware. Anything else?

...by the way, please advise as to what OS you're running.

I'm on a XP box - I finally ran HijackThis! and found another entry - so far so good.
