Hi - I have Exchange 5.5 Standard. I have been checking on the size of the priv.edb which I thought was the information store. Right now it is at 13GB and I know it can only go to 16GB. My question is the modified date of the priv.edb is 4/11/2003. Shouldn't the modified date be today's date? I have another server in another site whose modified date 1/08/2003. What am I missing?

the modified date in explorer is indicative of the last time the server or information store service was started.

Assuming your server is a primary domain controller you can make the new server a backup domain controller and once you are ready to take down the old server promote it to the primary domain controller.

Regarding Exchange you can load another Exchange server into your existing site and move the mailboxes with the Move Mailbox utility. There is also a tech doc from MS Knowledgebase on how to do this to make sure you move everything necessary before you remove the 1st server from the site.

Hope that helps a little.

brontosaurus - thanks for the information on the priv.edb
