Hi,
I'm using Ex 5.5 SP3 and NT4.0 SP5.
I know there are a lot of threads about similar issues, but I have an other problem.
After I have used eseutil /d my database shrinked only from 13.5 to 13.2 GB. Retention time for deleted Items is set to 0 days. All my Mailboxes have only 6 GB and there is no Mailbox larger that 200 MB. Counted by hand out of Ex-Admin and this is also the storgesize of Arcserve Bricklevel backup.

What could be the problem that ma priv.edb increase 300MB each day and an offline defragmentaion does'nt shrink my database down to 6-7 GB?

Thanks

Werner

Hi Werner,

I may be misunderstanding this question, but the offline defrag is designed only to reclaim white space, what makes you think that your stores should be decreasing, it could be that your users are just creating and receiving a lot of mail (perhaps you are also being spammed / are open for relay). When you look at the 1221 event in the application log, how much space does this indicate as being freed?

If this does not match what you are seeing then there's a problem. Also try setting your retention day to 1, I seem to remember a possible issue of zero, being treated as never (could be wrong on this) I think its worth a shot though.

Hi,
I found my Problem, yepee
There was a Mail loop between GMX and our Server.A user created a rule which forward all mails to GMX and delete it imediatly. Once a Mail with 4MB attachment was comming it was forwarded to GMX and moved to deleted items, but there was only 3MB free in the GMX mailbox, so GMX send the mail back with an Error "Mailbox full". The mail was forwarded again to GMX and moved to deleted item, .......... and so on.
The Problem was that the Exchange Administrator does'nt shows me 0 Kb and 0 items for this mailbox for any reason, maybe it was to large ( arround 7 GB in deleted Items ).

Hopefully my next offline defrag will decrease the the database size.
