I have a WPS11 Linksys Wireless Print Server. I am using a linksys wireless Router with a 4 port switch. There are 3 workstations in this network: Port 1 wired is an Windows XP Machine with the network bridge. There is a Windows 98 Machine with a wireless card and a Windows 2000 Professional laptop with a linksys wireless pcmcia card. All machines are using the same subnet and ip address configuration 192.168.1.X and the submet is 255.255.255.0. All clients are sharing files and have internet connection just fine. The problem is that as I was setting up my network and connecting the Print Server Drivers on each workstation it took several attempts before I could get them to connect, once they connected then printing worked fine. My XP Machine was working fine but as I was tweaking around the TCP/IP and then setting it back to the original settings and never could conenct again to the print server. It is very touchy. The Linksys tech support were of no help. There is no updated firmware available on Linksys's website for this device. The printer server has the same ip and subnet configuration including I added the domain name just to make everything exactly the same.

I can ping the print server from the XP machine. When I go to have the driver search, yest I downloaded the XP driver, the port window finds the printer but when you click ok you get an error message "PrintServer connect fail". Please Help... I have tried everything!!!

I also have a WPS11 with windows 2000. But I can't get the 2000 driver or biadmin off the Linksys web site to work. I can ping the IP address but the software won't recongnize my print server. What driver and biadmin did you use for your 2000 machine?

Thanks,

I have almost the same setup for my wireless network. I have been unable to print using the WPC11. It doesn't seem to work except for when it is connected by wire to the network. Even then, other wireless computers cannot see it. Any suggestions?

I had a lot of probelms with the WPS11 also. I found this review(walkthrough) and it helped me Mine works fine now. Follow it carefully.

Linksys WPS11 Wireless-B Print Server > Customer Review #3:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Works with a little patients

I purchased WPS-11 Ver 3 model from Amazon.com at a good price .... I have had good luck with previous Linksys products and they have all had very easy setup. This print server was difficult to set up and if you dont have a basic understanding of networking, set-up will be a problem.
I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 V.2 Wireless Access Point with 4 port router installed on my wireless network. I am running Zone Alarm firewall that is integrated with the router and it caused all of my problems. I was able to connect with wired Ethernet port and do all set-up of the print server using the included Bi-Admin tool but could not make the print server work in wireless mode. When I was connected by wireed port I could look at the wireless link status in the Bi-Admin tool and see that I was connected to the WAP and had good signal strength. (Please note unlike others have stated here, I had no problems with using an SSID different than the default or enabling 128-bit WEP).

I had to do the following steps to make the print server work in wireless mode. First, I disabled DHCP on the print server and set a static IP address. Then I had to enable exemption for this IP address on the security set up page of the Wireless Access Point. This is also the page where Zone Alarm firewall settings are made for the integrated firewall on the router. Had I just turned off the firewall on the WAP/router I would have saved a great deal of time. What ever you do, if you have a firewall, turn it off before you start the installation and it will go much easier. Then once things are running you can turn the firewall on and determine what firewall settings ned to be changed to allow the print server to remain functioning. Also once the Ethernet cable is removed you must cycle power to get the print server to use the wireless connection it will continue to try and acceess the wired connection once you remove the cable until you power cycle. It does not try to cycle automatically between wired and wireless.

After performing these steps everything worked great with out any problems.
