I have W2K Pro that suddenly does not print to LPT1 from any DOS programs. The user was able to print 2 weeks ago but advised me that suddenly no DOS programs will print on her local printer.

As the Administrator I tried to redirect the lpt1 with:
net use lpt1: \\server\share name

TWO QUESTIONS...

Question 1:

When I did this I got a message saying the credentials did not match. Any insight on that message?

Question 2:

Can I reset W2K to accept jobs from DOS?

note: even a command from the c:\> prompt
will not work (type autoexec.nat >prn)
[/tt]

It sounds like the user changed the password on the local machine and is no longer properly authenticated to the share machine.

If the user is in the domain, be sure they are logging in to the domain. If you are using workstations (no servers) then change/update the users password on the "share" machine.

Note: do the statement:
devcon disable *PNP0401

Prior to your existing declaration:
net use lpt1: \\server\share name

(Place devcon.exe in c:\winnt\system32)

Bill,

Again, good catch. Local group for that user needs to be administrators in order to map LPT1 with net use, that totally slipped my mind and I was thinking of access on the remote system. :)
