I'm trying to setup a print queue which will allow me to "fit" a printout in landscape to an HP LaserJet 4+. The printout currently goes to a line printer which I'm trying to eliminate. Any idea on how this can be done? I'm on AIX 4.3.

The problem is that the font is to big so the data is printed off the sheet.

Create a virtual printer.

You will need the BOS of 4.3 with you, and the IP to the networked HP printer.

Add the printer's IP into the host table.

As root issue the command "smitty mkvirprt".

Choose "HPJetDirect" and it will walk you through the
install. If you don't have the drivers, it will prompt
you to insert your BOS CD in.

Hope that helps.

I dont have a problem hooking up the HP printer. The problem is that I want the output which currently goes to a line printer, to print to the laser in landscape mode. I set the queue up as landscape easy enough. When the page is printed it does not scale the font correctly and the report overruns the edge of the paper since it was designed to print on Green bar paper not letter size.

My question is: How do I get the HP 4+ to scale the output so that it fits on the letter size page(in landscape mode)?

Ah Ha!

The its time to learn a bit of PCL.

Enter 'lsvirprt' and then choose your
printer number.

You can list all the attributes of the queue and make any changes.

Have your tried printing with 'qprt -z+' to rotate the print. Is the output already formatted? You may also need to specify the -w and -l flags to get the size set right, but with unformatted text this should work fine if you have less than 132 characters per line. You may also want to set the font with qprt -p12 for example
