We are running SCO OpenServer 5.0.7 and have recently put our 2 dot matrix printers on HP Jetdirect 300x print servers. Everything works fine except when we are printing a job, it will hang and stop printing. You have to put the printer offline and back online and the printing resumes. There is a 1-3 character loss, but it will continue where it left off. I have gone as far as to change to different printers and still no resolve.

The printers were set up using the scoadmin -> HP Network Print Manager.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have come across similar problems with no solution.

I could be wrong, but this sounds like a compatibility issue between the 300x and the printer. Try changing the parallel port option on the 300x. HP has a nifty Windows-based utility to do this, as I don't think the option is available on the menu you access with Telnet.
If the problem was with the SCO communications (which is still a possibility), I think you'd have to kill and restart the LP process before printing would resume.
OKIDATA printers are one of the common brands which require the Parallel Port change. I think you have to pick "Centronix", but I'm not positive. I have that Windows-based utility on my work computer. If you are still having problems by Monday, I'll get it to you, or provide a link to a download location.

Ok thank you. That fixed it. You have to change a setting called Preferred Parallel Mode to Centronics and it works fine. I also did a firmware update as well. But it fixed all the issues I had. Thanks again.
