Printing problems after patch installation

My location uses network print servers to establish printer queues. The drivers for the printers reside on the print server.

After installing mass Windows 2000\XP patches via Shavlik, users lose their ability to change printing options such as manual feed, envelopes, etc. Removing and reinstalling the printers from the server from the users' profiles does not solve the problem; upon reinstallation the printer options are still missing.

If I log into the local machine as a completely new user and install the printers from the server, the new user's profile does not display the options.

If I install the printers locally on the machine as an existing or new user as a TCP/IP printer and load the drivers locally, the options reappear.

Has anyone seen this? Does Windows 2000 cache printer drivers from servers? These are HP printers. According to Shavlik's documentation, their application does not do hardware driver updates, so it would appear that this isn't related to the HP driver update that's on Microsoft's update site.

I'm having a similar issue. Our IT department did a mass rollout of Win2kSP3 using Ecora Patch. One user is no longer able to print to an HP Laserjet 4si. Message reads "Some driver files are missing or incorrect, reinstall the driver or try using the latest version". Other users can print to the printer without any problems. This particular user can print to other printers fine. If another user logs onto this system and install the HP printer, they will get the same error message. I have tried reinstalling the printer on the pc and on the print server. I have updated the drivers on the server. I have tried running Windows repair and still get the same error message. I uninstalled Service Pack 3 and the printer works fine. When I reinstalled Service Pack 3, the message reappears. We need all of our systems to have Service Pack 3, so going back to Service Pack 2 is not an option.
