Hi all. I am having a slight problem here with printing issues on a mac. Our design department uses macs and one of our users for some reason when she prints any document the printer does not print the apostrophe's. If you look at the document after it prints there is a space where the apostrophe should be but no apostrophe. I have tried two other printers with the same result. If she sends the document to another mac user to print from their computer it prints fine. So I am guessing that the problem lies within her mac. If you go to print preview the apostrophe's show up their also, but they just wont print. She is running OS 9 and office 98. If any ohter info would be of help for you to figure this out just let me know and I will find out. All of our mac users also use something called font manager I think. Thanks for your help.

Definately a font issue. Check for conflicts and replace her font with the same one everyone else has.

Have seen this problem in the past...
Can't remember exactly how to fix as it was when we were importing text from a office (word) file into Quark.
To fix that we had to search and replace the 's with Quarks own ones.

Could it be some sort of preference in office?

Does it happen if you change the typeface?

Yes it still happens if we change fonts. I am not sure if it is an office problem or not. I am not a mac person but I try to help our mac users as much as I can. We have it narrowed to down to something on her machine because she is the only one with the problem so I am not sure what our next step should be. Thank you all for your help it is greatly appreciated.

Here's a stab in the dark: Are your users set on the same international settings in the system control panels?

Changing the font would only change the appearance of the unwanted single-quote - it would not restore it to the correct character. There are several characters that may represent the single-quote:

Why is everyone in this forum responding to me as picklefish?

Thank you all for your help and ideas. The problem ended up being just corrupt fonts. So we reinstalled the fonts on the machine and it seems to have taken care of the problem.

Do a quick test. Put your cursor after the point the apostrophe should be. Hit backspace. Now type a new apostrophe and print. See if that apostrophe is there or not.

Sometimes when you import text from Word or other programs into Quark you get postscripting problems like that.
