Printing PDF problem

I send a monthly newsletter to a really low quality print shop for printing. I make a high res PDF from InDesign. They just got some new HP printer that burns plates. The problem is that this new printer puts faint gray boxes around eps files (logos, clip art). Is there something I can do to fix this? They have no prepress department and have no idea how to fix it themselves.

Is it possible they have have profiles settings on images but not on vector? I know that when we print digitally those settings are on the RIP and are adjusted to the same settings for both, or you could export a high res Image pdf for them? That way the colour stays the same over everything.

Are the elements with boxes on a page that uses transparency effects?

No transparency in the file.

What is a high res image pdf? I already make a hi res pdf.

Maybe I'll try running it thru distiller instead of making a pdf directly from Indesign.

Some HP printers use PostScript emulation, not true Adobe PostScript, which could be part of the problem. Also, have you looked at the graphics through the Flattener Preview in InDesign?
