Printing on sticky double sided cards .. 2

Hi,

Template C32028

Until now I used to just print on one side of a page, turn it over and then print different info on the other side and all worked well.

After I bought my last pack of paper however, I realized that they're the type that you fold over and stick together.

So, I have the right sized artwork for both sides of the cards but I don't know how to set them up.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Makonz,

what you've explained so far is all working but I'm now having a problem with the size of the cards when they print out.

I gave up on using any of the template figures and tried a different route.

Paper size is 210x297

Individual card size is 85x54 - two columns and five rows.

I figured 2 cards at 85 = 170 so 210-170 = 40/2 // left and right margins should be 20mm each

5x540 = 270 // so 297-270 = 27 // so top and bottom margins should be 13.5 each.

The result when I print is that the cards are almost perfect in height (maybe just a mm too short) and the top of the first card lines up; the width is is about 2-3mm to large, although the left hand side lines up.

Any ideas would be appreciated, and thanks for your patience.

Hi Mike

It sounds like you are getting closer but here is where the 'tweaking' comes in or, as our friend above puts it, decrementing the width until it it fits your specification. If you are able to accurately measure the margins of your paper this will help to set the guides in the right place and because in my experience top and bottom and left and right margins on label stock are not always identical.
Also I am not 100% sure if the print is printing outside the borders of the card or if the alignment of the elements on your card are 2-3mm further away from the edge of the card than you want them to be ? Either way you will need to adjust your guide settings ( via the Arrange menu ).

One way to do your test prints to get your screen guides aligning exactly to your paper margins without wasting too much ink or label stock is print onto plain paper with your printer settings set on Black and white and the resolution on low or the dpi setting on 300dpi or less or fast print mode depending on what settings options are in your printer options dialog box. Another way is to insert a new page, Insert>Page, then with your 'snap to guides' setting enabled, overlay a 2 column 5 row table on the grid guides. To put a border around each cell press Control + A twice to select the whole table, click the Lines/Border Style button and then the More Lines option and select the All Borders button (that looks like a box divided into quarters), then OK.
Going off on your previous test print, make the guide adjustments using the Arrange menu. Click the table to select it and use the adjustment controls ( dots ) to move the border which should snap to new grid position. Print this to plain paper and compare to your label stock. Readjust and repeat until you are happy that the grid is aligned correctly to your paper then return to your card page and adjust the elements to fit within the guides.
Make sure to change the printer settings back to higher resolution colour when printing to your labels if you have changed these for the test prints. !
Hopefully this will get you there but feel free to come back if you get stuck again.

Well we won!

I went back and checked all you posts and saw that I hadn't use a white dashed retangular box but one with a black border instead.

I then tweaked the cards making sure that no text boxes overlapped and also changed the line spacing.

The upshot is that I didn't need to change any margins from the ones that I worked out arithmetically above.

Had a problem with Publisher saying the a font wasn't available when it was. I deleted it and then reinstalled it in Windows/fonts and Publisher found it.

Thanks for all the help. It doesn't seem that Publisher is over complicated but for people such as me that rarely use it, it's very nice to get quality help
