Hi,

Template C32028

Until now I used to just print on one side of a page, turn it over and then print different info on the other side and all worked well.

After I bought my last pack of paper however, I realized that they're the type that you fold over and stick together.

So, I have the right sized artwork for both sides of the cards but I don't know how to set them up.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Michael

Publisher 2007

I want to make sure I understand what you are saying. Apparently you are using business card stock (A4 size sheet). You want to print cards that have info on both sides.

Did you see that Publisher has a blank template for that card stock? You souldn't have to set anything up. Just lay in your design and print. (I'd probably use plant paper for the first run just to make sure I didn't waste any cardstock.)

I realized that they're the type that you fold over and stick together.
So EVERYTHING is printed on one side, only the TOP part wold be printed up-side down....

This is on the
BACK side, so it should be
UP SIDE DOWN
..........[fold]..........
This is on the
FRONT side, so it should be
RIGHT SIDE UP

Thank you both for your replies.

Sorry if I was short on detail but I always try to walk that thin line between giving enough info and boring people to death ;-)

Yes the format is A4

I have attached what I think the pub page should look like before I hit the print key.

Well????

Did you ACTUALLY hit the PRINT key?

THAT would answer your question.

That was just a mock-up!

It's what I don't know how to achieve in Publisher :-(

How do I take my two templates and create in Publisher what you see in the mock-up?

Thanks,

Mike

Cut 'n' paste, um, well, er, uh... usually works.

Well, I would search for a template that has the layout that you need.

Thanks Skip, but surely that's why I'm asking the question at this forum.

Where else would I find a template using the same specs as C32028 but with 10 cards per page?

I have no better ideas than coming here, but perhaps you have?

Mike

using the same specs as C32028 but with 10 cards per page
This statement could not possibly be true. If there are more cards per page, then the specification regarding either card dimensions or page dimensions or both, must be DIFFERENT!

If you are using C32028, then you have 8 cards. If you have 10, then it's not C32028. Check the package again

If you use MS Word, the Mailing > Create > Labels feature, you could Select C32029 and then use the New label feature to design a label to fit 2 across and 10 down, based on the physical dimensions of your sample, including web (spacing between)

That's what I would do.

<shiver> I'd work with Publisher to create the cards rather than Word. Anytime I have a lot of graphics, Publisher is my tool of choice.

Does publisher have a way to specify a single card/web spec, and propagate that to a page?

Thank you all for the feedback!

I just did, and Avery c32028 using a new random template displays 10 per page in print preview.

I just tried it, and it will work! I still have to play just a little because of the margins in Word - but it will work.

Thank you.

But see Skip's comment, "Does publisher have a way to specify a single card/web spec, and propagate that to a page?

If Publisher can't do the "propagation" then I will have to use Word or something similar.

Get Publisher to save as a tiff or whatever and then paste it into the Word template.

Hi Redbourne,

I'm not sure if you sorted your issue here or not but I have set up many A4 label templates with varying numbers of labels per page, depending on what stock I am using, for "print-on-demand" jobs for a manufacturing operation so I will tell you how I do it.
I never use templates as it is really fast to set them up exactly to the print position you want for the label stock that you have, using Publishers 'Arrange' Menu.
Go to Arrange > Layout Guides set the top, bottom and right and left margins in the Margin Guides Tab. In the Grid Guides Tab set 2 columns and 5 rows and, from the look of your jpg image there is no gap between the rows or columns, so set the spacing for both to 0.
(If you cant see the guidelines go to View and check "Boundaries and Guides")
To create a labels or a business cards with the same layout and spacing go to Arrange > Snap > and check "To Guides". Draw a rectangle with a dashed white line around the guidelines for one whole card, i.e. one row. It should snap to the guidelines.
Paste your text and graphics into the box and use the arrow keys to nudge selected elements exactly to the right position. When you have a front and a back looking how you want them, marquee ( or control + A ) to select all including the border rectangle. Click the Group Objects tab that appears or Arrange > Group. Right click the group and in the drop down menu select Copy. Right click again in clear space and select Paste. Click on the new group and hold the mouse down to maneuver near the next set of guides and it will snap into place. The broken white line makes it really easy to see that it is in place but it wont print. Repeat over page, save, test print, tweak or print the whole job when you are happy with it.

Sorry if I have over explained anything but I can guarantee that this method is absolutely faster than trying to do the same thing in Word.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Makonz,

No, you didn't over explain but I did have to guess what to do when I first open Publisher ;-)

I opened a blank A4 page and then in arrange/layout guides I entered top and bottom 2.5cm and left and right .5cm which are the settings that I used for the single card.

All went well until I pasted my card into the place holder and my email address shows just the first three letters of my name and part of the phone number is missing.

The "paste" looks too small for the placeholder which I think is causing the problem.

What do you think?

Mike

Hi Mike
You are getting pretty close actually. Your pic posts are good as I can see what we need to do to fix this.
The text cell that contains the name and Israel address is overlapping the email address so select the Israel address cell by clicking on it's border. ( Bit of a trick as the cursor must not be flashing inside the cell otherwise click again until the cell is selected but the cursor is now blinking inside it) 'Grab' the cell adjust 'dot' in the centre of the bottom line of this cell by clicking carefully on it and moving it up slightly so that it is not overlapping the other cell below. As soon as it is clear the text should appear. ( You might have to use the undo button a couple of times if you move the wrong thing but you'll get it.) Also working with small finished size work it is best to set the zoom at 150% so that you can more easily see what you are doing. Use the + and - buttons on your toolbar or View>Zoom>150%.
For the cellphone number text box, the text box is not big enough for the font size you are using here. Select this cell as above and use one of the cell control 'dots' on the RHS to expand/ stretch the cell to the right. As soon as the cell is big enough the missing text should reappear.
Another way to sort this is to select the cell then Format>Text Box and then under the Text Box Tab reduce the cell padding / margins on the right or left or top or bottom. If you use this to reduce the top and bottom margins to 0 then you may also want to may also want to set the vertical alignment to 'Middle' in the same tab. Play around with it until you get it looking how you want it.
To duplicate this when you have finished one set that you are happy with did you understand my instructions on creating a white broken line box around the edge of the cell and grouping it together with the rest of the elements ? This is absolutely the fastest way to populate the rest of the grid so worth trying - Come back again if you get stuck.
Regards

Makonz
