I am using CD5 to make graphic sketches. I scan in a graphic, then manipulate & add to it in CD5. Everything looks great on screen, but when trying to print, everything that was scanned in prints mirrored, while the items inserted/manipulated are normal. I am networked to another machine & it can print my graphics fine. CD5 is the only software this is happening in & it's also the only option I have to make my graphics. I have tried repairing it & uninstalling it (twice)& have uninstalled everything I can think of that might affect it. I cannot find any settings to change. I have WN XP but there are no restore points. HELP!! I cannot get anything done!

If by CD5, you mean CorelDRAW 5, my only suggestion is to seriously - seriously - upgrade. CD5 wasn't ever designed to work on WIn XP, or with a network. Get at least Corel 8. Even if you'd never had issues with CD5 on Win XP, I would recommend strongly against it.

Have to agree with impulselondon (wouldn't it be easier if we used names as well as handles)Draw 5 is very old and even V8 had issues with XP. I upgraded to V12 suite for about £130.00 + VAT and if you use Draw professionally it is a small price to pay and the reliability and extra features you will get will blow V5 into the weeds.

Lovely thought, guys, really. But my boss uses CD5 & I'm stuck with it. I explained the same thing to him & he's just not receptive to the big change (re-training, etc.) more than the cost. The thing is, it has worked on his system for the past 1.5 years & it worked on mine for about a month. Do you think that loading CD12 with CD5 still on the pc would cause any problems? I was thinking we could train to the new one while continuing to use the old one until comfortable with CD12. Or would it just try to load over top of the old?
(I'm in the high-desert southwest of the u.s. & it [oddly enough] looks very much like Brittain with all the rain & fog... strangely green for this area.)

You can install more than one version of Draw on the same machine at a time - they should automatically install into their own unique folders. At home, I have v7, 9, 10, 11, and 12 installed all on the same machine.

DO NOT try to install one version over the other - you'll just FUBAR things so bad it won't even be funny. There will be a steep learning curve from v5 to v12. Some things will be gone, some things will have moved, and then there will be lots of new things, too.

Your best bet is to NOT overwrite your v5 files, but to possibly import the v5 files into new v12 files or to just recreate them from scratch. Why do it this way? Well, mainly so you won't screw up the originals in case you have to go back and work from v5.

I agree with Javabear. Does V5 export as cmx this will get rid of any style information, assuming V5 has any.

CD5 saves as a .cdr file but we've found that if we export a file as a .tif, we can print it from Adobe PhotoShop. It's a round-about way of doing things, but at least we've found a way to print & get some work done. I'll bring up the upgrade to him again & let him know that multiple versions will not corrupt the hd or other files. He may be up for it as long as we can continue using the known version while learning the new.

Thanks, both of you! You've been very helpful.

P.S.
After reading some of the other strings on this site, I wonder if the print errors occurred due to the loading of Norton. Which also makes me wonder if disabling Norton during the print process might help. I'll also give this a try; but since we're on broadband, I hate the idea of forgetting to re-enable Norton.
Thanks again.

Well, just because v5 saves as a CDR doesn't mean that everything about that version of the CDR format has been carried forward in the newer versions. I agree with Brushman that saving it as a CMX would be the best thing as that would eliminate any "style" info (and the Styles stuff would be one of the main things that would have changed). Depending on what else is in the file, text handling will definitely have changed since that version, so there may be some text issues that may need to be addressed (hopefully not).
