Printing in AutoCad 2004

We are having a problems while trying to plot a 40MB dwg file to an HP800 plotter using the HPGL driver. The plot generates a print file of over 100MB. The dwg file does not have a great deal of detail, is has been slightly compressed though. We have tried different drivers and play around with the printer settings. We have also repaired AutoCad 2004. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to reduce the print file.

A 40MB file for AutoCAD2004 is huge. You say its been compressed somewhat so I'm assuming you've tried the usual routines of purging, deleting the layer filters etc., so you might try performing a recover on the drawing, and see if that reduces the file size. Also it's probably worth your while to wblock the drawing using the "window" option (not "all", or the "*" option), and then opening and plotting the wblocked file.

If you have already, can an 800 make use of HPGL2 drivers?

We had a similar issue last year and for it is worth, our solution was to apply the latest AutoCAD service pack to the computer. Other past fixes I have seen was to make sure TEXTFILL is 1, converting embedded raster images file types (ie TIF to JPG). Good luck.
