I am trying to get my work laptop to print to a printer on home network. The home pc is in a workgroup and the work laptop is in a domain used when I am connected at work. When I do an IPCONFIG on the laptop it is on the same network as the home pc. I can ping to the home pc using the home pc hostname but can not add the home printer to the laptop. I get the message "access denied" and "can not connect to the printer". Does anyone have any suggestions?

Which OS?

Do you have root/administrator rights to the laptop?

IIRC most OSes require root/admin rights to add a printer.

Sorry for not including which OS. I'm using Windows 2000 on the laptop and Windows XP on my home computer. I do have administrator rights to the laptop. I will try it. Thank you for the tip. Just wondering what IIRC means?

Thanks for the definition. I did login as administrator for my computer. I did add the printer and could print a test page. When I rebooted and logged back in has my work user name and looked at the printers, the printer I added was not there. It appears that when I logged in as my work user name that user profile puts me in my work domain. When I added the printer using administrator on my local computer I was not in my work domain.
Thank you for your time and help!
