Hello…

I’m trying to get a flattened .tif file (65 MB) created in Photoshop 7.01 into Acrobat pro 6.0.2 so it can be sent to the printers. Here’s what I’ve done:

convert RGB tif to CMYK
save @ 400dpi
print to adobe pdf with these settings:
- compatibility: acrobat 5.0 (pdf 1.4)
- object level compression: tags only
- resolution: 1200 dpi
- optimize for fast webview is checked

File then prints to distiller as .pdf. When I open the .pdf file in Photoshop to check it, the dpi is 150 and its shown as RGB mode! What am I doin’ wrong? I know I haven’t set something up right, but what?

Thanks

Hi again…

Here’s where I’ve ended up so far…it seems to work. BTW, I’m using windows XP…

convert RGB tif to CMYK
save @ 400dpi
print to adobe pdf with these settings:
- compatibility: acrobat 5.0 (pdf 1.4)
- object level compression: tags only
- resolution: 2400 dpi
- optimize for fast webview is Unchecked

File then prints to distiller as .pdf. When I open the .pdf file in Photoshop to check it, the dpi is 400 and again its shown as RGB mode. I converted the pdf file to CMYK in Photoshop 7 and saved it. It now shows as CMYK.

Is this OK to send to the printers?
Why is Acrobat 6 changing the CMYK mode back to RGB the first time I print to pdf?
Should I save the file @ 300 dpi, or does it matter if it’s 400 dpi?

More thanks!
