We just got 4 new thin terminals and 4 HP USB laserjet 1000 printers for the thin terminals but we can't get them to work together. Does anyone know how or why the Thin terminals will not find the printers even when we load the drivers on there? We tried the deskjet printers on them too and for some reason it takes all day to print one page for our users. Any help on this would be great.

Thanks

Hi,
I do not have used NCD thim client, but I have build
a big project with Citrix and Compaq thin clients.
(they are Wyse terminal remarqued)

In these machines the printers avaialble to the
terminal level was seen only by RDP protocol
(if I removed RDP features on it, the printer capability
went away). To add a printer via Metaframe, I choosed
NO printer at terminal configuration level.

To add a "Auto generated printer" for the terminal,
follow the steps:

0) install printer driver on Metaframe Server
( say LPT1 port for now )

1) Login at metaframe server from the thin-client
and from desktop run:
Start \ Program \ Citrix \ Metaframe XP \ ICA Client Prinyter Config. \ Add ...

----- * * ---- * ----- *

Another way that I have used, my terminal permitted this,
was to use it as a LPD server. I have enabled LPD on terminal
and I have choosen a queue neme "myque".

At server console yo make:

Add a printer / local / add a port / standad TCPIP / custom /
IP Address of terminal / custom / LPR / myque

In this mode not just the owner of terminal can print on printer
but also another user near him. Futhermore, you avoid automatic
creatione and deletion of printer each time user login-logout.

You didn't mention if you were using Citrix or not, if you are NOT, and are direct connecting the printers I would call the NCD rep that sold the terminals to you and get their support.

But if you DO have citrix, victorv's comment on autocreating the printers with LPR is a great idea, OR you may install the drivers on the citrix server and auto-create the printers, OR creating a print server and sharing the printers and assigning print privileges to your users through windows is another option.

I'm sorry, yes we do use Citrix Metaframe XP 1.8 and are trying to hook our HP 1000 USB printers up to a NCD Thin Terminal, we have tried installing the print drivers to the server and also on the thin terminals but the thin terminals will not find the printers it say's that there is no printer attached. It won't even give us the option to use a USB printer even though it comes with two USB ports. The Deskjets that we were using works fine on a pc with citrix but will not on the thin terminals, it takes almost the entire day to print one page.
I will try victorv's solution tomorrow when I get in but if anyone else knows anything more please let me know.

Thanks
