Here's the scenario:
We print checks on pre-purchased "security paper" forms that are sequentially numbered (lowest to highest, top to bottom) & come in stacks of 50 or so. Currently, the only printers we have that we can use to print properly on these are Laserjet 2100's, using the manual feed tray. Unfortunately, the separator pads wear out pretty often on the manual trays, and the printer ends up multi-feeding the stack of checks & ruining the batch.
I would like to purchase a more robust printer that feeds the checks from the drawer trays (such as the 4200 series), but there is a problem. If we put the stack of checks in a drawer on any of our current workgroup printers (4000's, 5000's, etc.), the printer picks up the top sheet and prints on the *back*, leaving the pre-printed numbering & such on one side, and our manually printed info on the other side. Obviously, we can turn the stack over to get printing on the right side of the paper, but because the printer pulls from the top of the stack, the checks are printed in the wrong sequence (highest number to lowest), and our accounting software doesn't synch with the actual hard-copy checks.
Basically, what I'm looking for is a printer that has a robust separator mechanism (our larger-volume printers have yet to develop separation problems from the drawers, after several years of use), and either feeds from the top and prints face-up, or feeds from the bottom of the stack & prints on the down-facing side of the sheet.
Does anyone know of a good printer that has this type of paper path? (I prefer HP printers, but if I have to, I could go with another brand).
