Thank you for looking at my post.

I need to create reports than can print "2 of 5" and "Code39" barcodes. These barcodes will be added to current reports and be printed on an HP LaserJet printer.

Can you let me know:
?Can this be done using Crystal 9
?How do you do this with Crystal 9
?Do I need a 3rd party tool or add on
?Is this easier to do with a later version of Crystal (11?)

Thanks,
Richard Scott

CR2008 has greatly enhanced barcode capabilities - not sure if it will do what you need, but it's worth taking a look.

I've done this with Crystal 9, XI and 2008 without any issues but can get tedious depending on what needs to be barcoded. What we did was create a formula to add to the report so that your info was enclosed in start/end characters the barcode recognizes such as:

"*"+{TABLE.FIELD_NAME}+"*"

Insert the formula into your report then change the font to the barcode font. Might have to play around with the font size to make sure it gets scanned consistently. Also depending on the scanner, some won't recognize spaces so you'll need to replace them with an underscore.

CR 2008 (v12) comes with a free font. You can install other free fonts for older versions. Azalea is one of 3 primary vendors that charge for their fonts along with Wasp and ID Automation. This article is a good summary:

And there is a section on my LINKS page devoted to bar codes fonts and information.

I want to thank you all for the recommendations. They all showed me different ways to solve my barcode issue.
