I had cooked ink in a phaser 860, so after getting new sticks, I decided to purge the old ink. Yellow was fine. Blue started streaking really badly and left splotches, paper started jamming. I can't figure out if splotches are on the prinhead or somewhere else, but there are splotches that print on every page and do not seem to lighten with each printing.

What happens is that if I run blank pages through, I see light colored splotches on the paper. But if I run a full color-- like all magenta, then where the splotches would normally appear-- there is no ink.

anyone have any ideas? I looked for paper in the printer but cannot find any. cleaned the wiper blade in the maintenance kit and the rapid something blade in the exit tray.

I want to post more info because I wanted to get a good response.

When printing the blue pages, the lower tray went empty, which meant it pulled from the upper tray which were labels. Well, labels are not supposed to print double sided, so the jamming started. I cannot tell if the problem is ink or if the problem is adhesive being somewhere where it is not supposed to be.

Check the maintenance roller to see if there is something on it that is transfering when printing. When you pull the maintenance drawer out also look at the lift pins on each side to see if there is a notch worn into them on the ends of teh lift pins. If so your problem may be tied to that and you would require a new drawer and possibly a new clutch that operates the maitenance drawer.

You are a LIFESAVER!

Not only is the lift pin notched, but there is "gunk" inside the maintenance kit rolling mechanism so that when it rolls, it picks up gunk. I was nearly in tears last night because I thought I had ruined the printhead with this.

I have another question. Is there anywhere else besides the maintenance roller that would have ink or gunk on it?

I need to add one more thing:

is there anywhere else that there could be a problem?

I print full color pages on duplex and on one side, you get an ink "deposit" similar to what is seen on the picture with the white sheet of paper (light stripes page). But on the backside, you get a print with an ink "subtraction" similar to what is seen on the picture of the magenta page.

There is a black roller that can be seen when you open the exit cover, this is called the transfix roller and it is next to the drum. If you take the right side cover off and open the exit cover, remove the blue blade that sits on a shaft above the drum ,it just snaps in place. You can manually turn the drum by hand using the belt pulley on the right side and see if there is anything on the drum and using 90% alcohol clean the drum, also the black roller next to it, you should be able to spin it using your hand. These are the only thing I can think of that may have gunk on them you are seeing.
