My printing problems have happened on 2 separate printers (Cannon i550 & Cannon i560). They have worked fine for years… then just started acting up. Ink cartridges are full, drivers have been removed and reloaded and the problem still exists. Printer is connected directly to computer via USB.

Using my Windows XP and MS Office 2003, I have problems printing text. It used to work well and then just started acting up. Using any/all programs (i.e. Word, XL, Outlook, Publisher, Acrobat, Photoshop, etc.), I can print imbedded objects (i.e. logos, graphics, etc.) but the text is always missing. The printer acts like it is printing the text but nothing comes out of the print head. When I send a “Test Print Page”, I get the same results. However, when I send the printer into the “Align Print Heads” or “Clean Nozzles” mode, all colors (including black) print without problems.

Has anyone seen this type of problem before?

I had a printer that would not print text and when I changed the print cartridge it started to print text. The old cartridge felt full and the printer is only 5 month old. Some times the ink dries in the cartridge. Try a new cartridge. If the problem persists and you used the windows test for printing instead of the one that comes with printer program. Most printer programs are images and will use the color ink to make the printed image showing text when it is not really text, but an image of text.
Remove the black cartridge and spray a small amount of Windex Window Cleaner on the place the ink seats to the printer. If the ink is dried and clogging the ink tubes it will soften the ink and let the new ink flow through the tubes.

THIS TOTALLY WORKED!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH. I was about to go out and purchase more printers and $0.01 of windex did the job!

Thanks again.
