We have a Windows XP Machine with a local printer shared with file and printer sharing. This is no a Novell netowrk. The shared printer has installed to all the computers connected to the network automatically. I have also noticed other printers have done the same thing.

What's your question? Are you having problems installing the printer on a computer?

I think he's saying the server installed the print drivers without user intervention.
I have seen similar. The drivers are not on the workstation, but the printer can be seen and used as it has a local (albeit over the network) connection to the printer.

This is by design in the post-Windows 2000 world. If you setup a network printer on your system and are using XP/2003 on both sides, a driver will be automatically downloaded from the server to the client without user intervention.

I hope this helps!

Home Network Print Server Problem
I am unable to connect to a dlink 300u print server after I changed routers on my home network. On the network I have some dell laptops and desktops all running xp pro or w2k pro. I had a linksys router (not wireless)which I used with its default address of 192.168.1.1. While using the Linksys I installed the DLink 300U print server giving it a static address of 192.168.1.120. I removed the linksys and replaced it with a Belkin wireless router which had a default 192.168.2.1 address which I then used. I did not get around to trying to connect to the DLINK for a few weeks after I changed routers and then found I had a problem connecting to it. At that point I reset the Belkin wireless router to 192.168.1.1 just so I could connect to the Dlink. Sadly this is a lower end router that has no physical reset switch, so once the ip is set to 192.168.1.120 I could not connect to it from a pc under a router with an address of 192.168.2.1. So I changed the router address to 192.168.1.1 to trty to connect. Using the DLink install software there is a search function to detect the dlink server but it does not find the router. I am stuck - there is nothing I found in the manual to solve this problem - which I think the problem is the iP address is unknown. Is there a freeware utility I can use to try to find out what ip address the print server will respond to? PS - I was unsure what forum this should be poted to.
