we have a 200 icp rel 4, i am trying to get the smdr to dump from the system printer port. it works in procomm as long as i am set to 9600 space 7/1. how do i change printer port to 9600 none 8/1. form 34 lets me change the speed but not the other settings. please help!

this is an mx controller, i could not find anything in the tech handbook

9600/N/8/1 always works for me.

Are you sure your Procomm is set up properly?

is it possible to change the printer port settings in the mitel to 9600 n 8 1? right now its 9600 space 7 1.

I have never known the system port to be anything other than XXXX/N/8/1. I am questioning your analysis of the issue. How sure are you?

The only thing you can change about the Printer Port is the speed. Other than that, you're stuck with adjusting your other device to xxxx/S/7/1. The only way around that would be an iPocket.

It looks like they are correct. If you go into the maint page and 1-SET SPEED, you can control the speed of the printer port.

If you are using release 4, i'm positive it would 8/N/1

Try something simple like hyperterminal to confirm the parity.

To display the printer port settings, from the Maintenance screen select 1-System, then 2-Show, 4-Device, 8-Printer Port.

To change the printer port speed, from the Maintenance screen select 1-System, then 1-Set, 4-Speed, 8-Printer Port.

I know of no way to change the 7/S/1 parameter.

Hmmm you are indeed correct. Mine also says that as well:

?SHOW DEVICE PRINTER_PORT
?PORT : PRINTER
?SPEED : 9600 BPS
?PARITY : SPACE
?DATA/STOP : 7/1

But my term program is set to:

COM1
9600
8
NONE
1

Your mileage may vary.

i ended up setting having the pms computer set to 9600 none 7/1. They didn't have an option of space. The printer port was 9600 space 7/1. This seemed to work fine for the smdr. Our ATAC people confirmed with mitel, the speed is the only thing you can change on a printer port. It has to be xxxx space 7/1.

thanks

@ SNIP81 Just remember you heard it here first. That's why I love forums... unless you have your experts on tap, posting on a forum is like broadcasting an SOS.

@ JimHilton I've seen that before, too, and it puzzled me enough that I looked into it. The bits within a serial packet are sent "Least Significant Bit" first. That means that a 7-bit ASCII character followed by a Space (0) parity bit will look exactly like an 8-bit Extended ASCII character to your 8/N/1 terminal and it's not looking for a parity bit anyway. As long as the receiving end isn't looking for any kind of flow control, compression, or error correction, it doesn't seem to matter if there's an apparent protocol mismatch.
