I have no idea if this is the correct place to post this...but I though I would give it a shot. I posted it in another area but then found this one.

I run Windows XP-Home edition.I composed a short letter. Selected print-fax and entered fax number to dial.
There was no dial tone.
There was no dial ring.
No indication that anything happened at all.
So I figured it didn’t work. Tried adjusting the way I entered the fax number but still nothing.
I gave up.
Later received a call from that person saying they received 6 faxes from me. This was most annoying to them and I do not want to make that mistake again

Even tho I have the correct boxes ticked in Fax properties and sound settings, I cannot figure out why I am not notified of when fax is being sent.
What am I doing wrong? How do I fix this?

sure hope someone can help me! I have tried looking all thru the help features and cannot find a thing to help me.

thnx

There should be an option to bring up the "Fax Monitor" or configure the settings as to when the monitor should open. Look towards the bottom of the link, at "Troubleshooting Fax Transmissions", for information about this. This is a good article as a whole for setting up and configuring faxing in XP.

I hope this reply is not too long.

First, I went to control panel, click add/remove program and looked for Fax Services. It was not there. *see fyi below

Even tho Fax Services is not showing in the add/delete area, I see there is a icon in the control panel-printers etc. I would have thought, if I had uninstalled the Fax Services, the icon would not be in the control panel. When I click on the printer fax icon, I get the fax screen to proceed with sending a fax. So I assume all is setup okay.

But I still proceeded to check your other suggestion. Then I clicked start, all programs and went to fax configuration wizard. All the boxes were already are checked off in the property box.
Notification area yes to show progress when faxes sent/rec’d, yes to notify of success/failure for incoming and outgoing. Fax monitor is set to automatically open when fax is being sent and received.
The sound settings are all checked so that a sound will play when line rings, when new fax is received, fax is sent and when fax error is detected.
So even tho all were checked off as indicated, I still did not hear a thing. But yet the fax went thru to the designation
However, I did notice while in Fax Console, at very bottom right, it said: all fax printers are inaccessible.
Now I am really stumped. It says fax printer are inaccessible but yet I can send a fax.

My setup: I have a phone splitter plugged into the phone plug in the wall.
1. I have the phone cord going from my computer into ‘split phone connector’ in phone line insert in wall.
This allows me to send faxes via computer.
2. Then another phone cord from that splitter connector to my fax. This allows me to send faxes manually. And receive if I keep fax plugged in.

FYI....
1. I did have another fax software on my computer a long time ago which was uninstalled but may have
unintentionally uninstalled the incorrect one.

2. I did have some work done on my computer a while back where many of the shortcuts in my Owner\Startup\Program folders were removed. This was done intentionally, don’t remember why now. Oh, I found some of the programs in Windows/system32 and managed to get some back in but don’t think this is the problem.

I don’t know if there is a way to help me or not. It seems I have done something really weird!

.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Windows Fax service via the Add/Remove Windows Components Wizard?

add/remove in control panle is the first thing I tried to do. Nothing was there that indicated any kind of FAX software.
