We have various printers, attached to different axis print servers, installed on & then shared out by an NT4 server. During the last few days printouts have been re-appearing on the print queues with a status of 'printed - printing'
The only printer to be added lately is an HP LJ2200N this is also shared over the network but via HP Jetdirect.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you getting any errors in the event viewer? If I understand you... when you look at the NT server's print queue, you see a weird status message...'printed - printing'

I'm not too sure...haven't seen this error before. Check Joseph L. Poandl

There is nothing in the Event Viewer to indicate a problem with the printers / spooler etc.
The status message 'Printed - Printing' appears in the Printer folders on both the Server & all the Clients with the Printers installed as network printers. (All clients are also on Win NT4)
I have searched the 'Technet' but not found anything to help.
It only started to happen after the HP2200N was networked via HP Jetdirect, (all the other printers attached via Axis units are also HP's), I don't know whether there could be a connection there.

We have many HPs and Jetdirects and I think I remember seeing this problem a couple of times.

Download the latest Jetdirect Network drivers from the website and load them on the server. Do the same for the printer drivers.

If neither of these work then try out the 4SI drivers on it, they are good and robust. (Presumably you mean Laserjet 2200, not Inkjet?)

If all this fails then try calling HP themselves, they are actually very good, all you need is a serial number that is still under warrenty (even for driver problems).

Good thought, I would check out support site. I quickly looked and found that a fragmented hard drive could cause a similar problem with spooling.

Thanks for your help.
It turned out that the HPLJ2200N software had been installed on both the PDC & the BDC. Removing the software from the PDC cured the problem.
Strange that the HP2200N printouts didn't duplicate but the other HP laserjets did!
