ProComm 4.8/Win2000, Panasonic KX-3626 Dot Matrix using KX-1624 or KX-3626 driver.

I upgraded both ProComm 4.7/Win95 to the above. We run about 12 scripts that use capture and printcapure statements. After the upgrade, the majority of the scripts now add shading where there is text. Sometimes there is no shading. There is no trend as to when shading will appear and the scripts connect to different systems and no trend there either. I checked to be sure all settings from 4.7 are the same for 4.8, but still no success. If I take the capure file and print, it prints fine.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated...

By shading, do you mean the output has a background color of some sort? If so, try adding the line PrintNoColor=1 to the [Options] section of PW5.INI in your Windows directory. If there is not an [Options] section in the file, just add it at the end of the file followed by the PrintNoColor=1 line.

Shading may be the wrong description. It's actually 5 small dots, in a column that runs for the entire row whereever text is displayed and the text is printed over the dots. If there is a blank line, the dots do not display.

hope this helps..

If you highlight text on the screen and select Copy to Printer, do you see the dots then as well (assuming that a printcapture of the same text produces dots)?

Yes, when highlighted it also prints the dots. But if I choose playback and select the captured file it doesn't print the dots. I tried the three different options in the connection directory for the captured file. I'm using zmodem, vt-100, 7E1 or 8N1, it all produces the same results.

Do the dots appear in the blank spaces between words? Try having the monitor window open the next time you are testing the script and see if the other side is sending a character that may look like a space on-screen but is not really one. To activate this window, select the Data | Monitor Window menu item. Resize the Monitor Window so that you can view the entire width of the window, then click back in the Procomm Plus window so that the Monitor Window does not have focus. Incoming text is displayed in red, while text you send is colored blue. A space should come in as hex 20 - if something else appears in the monitor window while it looks like a blank space in Procomm, then this could be the mystery character.

No, the dots do not stop for spaces between the words. If the text is centered on the page, the dots begin at the left margin and then end at the last character of text for that line. I will give the data window a try later this morning. I did do a hex dump of the printcapture report to the printer, but did not see any values that would create the dots.

Thanks for your continued help....
