Dear All,

We have an Epson AcuLaser C900 and are using an
Intel NetPort Express 10/100 2port print server
to connect to its Parallel Port.

All works perfectly fine while there is one job
in the queue - but the second a user submits
a second job the print ceases to print and flashes
the status lights to indicate a "protocol error".

This is very anoying, because it means it will only
work while there is one job in the queue, and users
can't submit another one until the first is completed.

If the printer is plugged into a workstation and shared
that way, it will print perfectly - but obvioustly this
restricts where we can locate the printer.

Any comments would be apprechiated.

Regards,

Robert

The network consists of a Windows 2000 Advanced Server
and all clients are Windows 2000/XP and are connected
via 100m/bit switches.

We have tried to use another print server 'Axis 5400'
which has the same problem when using the Epson C900.

The print yet again will print if one Job is in the
queue, but once a second job is submitted before the
first is completed, it again ceases to print is current
job and indicates 'Protocol Error'.

The problem arrises with both print servers tried, if
clients print directly to the print server or if they
go via the Windows 2000 Server (current setup).

Is poss that server not compat with printer. Have you looked into upgrading axis bios.

Don't you think maybe its a tad strange both the
Axis and Intel ones cause the same fault?

only reason suggested bios cause epson suggested it with same prob using axis 1400. Another suggestion I've run across is to disable bidirectional printing

I have the same problem with an Epson EPL6200L on both a D-Link DP300+ and a Netgear PS101, and Epson won't help when "connected to 3rd party devices". Disabling bidirectional printing does not help with this problem.
