I have a simple report with one group; GH1, Detail and GF1. Each group has about 5 or 6 detail lines with group header and footer information. I need to be able to place a row of '*' on the next line after the last groupfooter on each page. This indicates no more valid data on this page so that recipients of the report can't add their own data!! The report is to be a certificate of student results.

I presume I need to put the hyphens in a formulae in the groupfooter, visible only if the next record is on the next page or there are no more records, but how?

I am using Crystal Reports 6.

Right click on the group footer and click insert section below. This will create a second group footer. Insert a text object in the footer made up of all *****. Then conditionally format that section to suppress when you want it to, and show when you want it to. Software Support for Sage Mas90, Macola, Crystal Reports, Goldmine and MS Office

Thanks for the quick response.
I follow all the way to

"...Then conditionally format that section to suppress when you want it to, and show when you want it to. "

I need to display the '*'s only in the last groupfooter on the page. How do I know when that will be? How do I know that the next group will be on the next page? I currently count groups and show the '*'s in the n th group where I pass n in as a parameter after having previewed the report!!

so what you want is a page footer, but only IF the last thing before it was a group footer? Software Support for Sage Mas90, Macola, Crystal Reports, Goldmine and MS Office

Sorry to keep coming back, but I understand page footers to only print at the bottom of the page. I need there to be no white space between the last group footer summary on the page and the row of '*'s.

So it is like a page footer but one that can float up the page to sit just under the last group footer. Can this be done. I have found Crystal Reports to be amazingly powerful and have been able to produce all that I need thus far, but this one has me stumped.

Thanks
Steve

Steve,

A group footer would eliminate the white space, but I don't know how to get it to print ONLY in the last group footer of the page.

I spent an hour playing with a running total count field and trying to get it to evaluate on the change of the page, and failed.

My next step would have been to conditionally suppress the group footer of "*"s if the next page = the current page.

I don't know how to accomplish either one of these. Call me stumped as well. Software Support for Sage Mas90, Macola, Crystal Reports, Goldmine and MS Office

Hmmmmm...I am a little confused

A) Is each GH-detail-GF combination restricted to one page? I think so...then your problem is easy

B) But the way you describe it , it sounds like many GH-detail-GF combinations can exist on one page and you only want a line under the last one (perhaps you have a "Keep Together" on the Group....that is a more difficult problem.

A) is solved simply by putting the row of "*" under the last of the footer information and setting the "New Page After" check box in the Section Expert for that footer

If it isn't that then describe your situation clearer and we will work on the more difficult solution

Thank you to dgillz and ngolem for your responses and also for confirmation that it is not something simple that I am missing. I have just returned from holidays and seen ngolem's response.
The situation is as s/he describes it in B). Many GH-Detail-GF combinations per page with 'Keep Together' on the Group and yet I need to print a row of '*' immediately after the last GF on each page.

Thanks,
Steve
