I have just added a new laptop to our network. when I try to add our main networked printer I get the following message:

A policy is in effect on your computer which prevents
you from connecting to this print queue. Please contact
your system administrator

Although I have added a printer attached to a pc and shared out by another user.

What do i need to check?

Has anyone any ideas about this??

The laptop is running XP Pro on a W2K domain (Small Business Server 2000)

Is the laptop running Service Pack 2? The problem you are having is quite common and resolved in SP2.

I just got the same problem on one of our workstations. The printer is shared from an XP pro workstation on a server 2k3 domain. The worksation I am trying to add the printer on is also xp pro and is fully updated. Any other ideas?

Is there permissions setup with this printer on the print server?
