I have a client, a pizza place to be exact, that wants people to be able to order a pizza from their website and it print, when they submit their form, on a printer that will be placed in the kitchen of the resturaunt. They do not want to incorporate accepting credit cards this way, only orders. I am experienced in HTML and Flash and I know a little Javascript, but I have never done anything like this before and don't know where to start. I have no experience in CGI, PHP, Perl, etc. I have considered just submitting the form to email and trying to figure out a way where the emails will print as they are recieved. Any guidance you could offer would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Travis Travis McGuire

You can use the Net::printer module under Perl or else pipe output to the printer by opening a filehandle. If you have no experience programming, then I suggest outsourcing it if you plan to have it finished this year. Sincerely,

Could you please elaborate? I know nothing about perl and do not understand what you mean by opening a filehandle. As far as sub-contracting goes, the company is very small, it has only one location and does not have much money to work with. It seems like there should be a way to set it up as an email form and have the email client print it as the emails are automatically checked and recieved. I expect them to only recieve about 5-10 orders per day via the web, so the email would work if anyone knew a way to automate the printing or if there is any software out that does this. Moirakris,
you are a lifesaver. I've been talking to a lot of people about this, but no one new about this program. I will for sure check it out and let you know how it works or have you used it?

Thanks a million,
Travis Travis McGuire

Personally, I wouldn't rely on Outlook for anything of importance, but this sounds like a relatively simple way to achieve what you need with minimal hassles. You should probably set up a good spam filter and virus guard though. Let us know how it works out for you. Sincerely,

i am hosting the site and also their email. i use spam assassin on my server. also i'm going to use form mail, so hopefully very few people will get the email address. i normally recommend eudora to my customers due to security issues with outlook, but should work perfectly for me.

thanks again,
travis Travis McGuire

i also want to thank everyone for being so helpful, not just for this particular post, but i have had people help me solve every problem i have ever posted on this site. it is by far the best forum. Travis McGuire

No I haven't tried it personally. Never had the need to implement this. Good Luck and send me some pizza!!
