Folks,

A Windows NT4 workstation is having difficulty printing basic word documents. When a job is sent to the printer it seems to quadruple in size when spooling. I've checked the drivers and even printed the documents to another PC without any errors. Deleted/recreated the printers etc.etc.

It is not a user profile issue and no other users are reporting any difficulties with the printers.

I want to delete all the files in the below directory - as instructed by a MIcrosoft Knowledge Base article but am unsure as to whether this includes the hidden files as well.

C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\DRIVERS\W32X86

Can anybody shed any light on this? Thanks a lot.

Johnny

Not quite sure what you mean- do you mean the job as spooled from the NT m/c is 4x as big as when it spools from a different m/c? One would expect a spooled job to be many times bigger than the original .doc, if that's what you mean?

Jim,

Thanks for your reply.

The size when spooling the job from the user's PC is over 1MB - for me it is only 219KB. It is a very basic Word document - not even close to 1MB.

Surely there are corrupt printer config files on the PC - what do you think?

Thanks again Jim

All the best

Johnny

I think that your user has corrupt drivers on the local profile. Delete all his printers, from his profile. have him log off, connect administratively, delete all drivers from the system32\spool\w32x86\2 folder, restart the wrkstn and have him readd the offending printer and test.
