When I download text information from some web sites, maybe some letters or a word or two is omitted on the right side of the print out top to bottom. If there is a side bar on the left it usally worse as the side bar is printed and more text is lost on the right.

Usually due to design of web page, and assumptions made about target paper size when printing.
[European printers usually default to A4 paper, which is narrower than the US default Letter size].

Circumvent by selecting Orientation=Landscape in the print dialogue.

I have tried switching but it does not help. It probably has something to do with the side bar but there is no means to turn them off.

You probably need to set the Orientation in the PageSetup dialogue first, before entering the print dialogue.
Your print driver should also offer options on printing of frames: as laid out; selected frame only; all frames individually. Perhaps this would help?

That's really annoying and I've been using the same thing dansdad suggested, changing the orientation to landscape before printing to get around it.
I saw another thread recently, which I cant find right now, in which it was suggested to reset the right and left margins to the minimums allowed by your printer and see if that helped. Ive not had occasion to try that since I saw the suggestion.

I have tried all these steps each of you suggest but it just don't work. I have set my print to landscape and set my margins to 1/4"(as close as it gets to the edge). I even Queried microsoft and they came back saying thats the nature of things. You would think the web designers would be more savy but then again maybe they never thought anyone would like to download any instructions, just read the data and it will be imprinted in your head forever. Thanks for trying.

only viable workaround I have found for this is to copy into word and print from there

This is something that has bugged me for years.
However there is now a feature in the new version
of Netscape that solves it (microsoft take note!)

When you print from netscape you can select a
"shrink to fit page width" option... its really
nice and really usefull (shame its not in IE though).
