Hi all.

I recently came across an S8700 system. The only access I have to it is via a PPP connection. Once I get to the terminal screen I noticed that there is no print command. (In older software with direct modem connections I could use any command followed by "print" to send the info to a printer or a file.) Is there any way to enable that? Is there a way to connect to the S8700 without using PPP? (meaning a modem like in olden times) If anyone has any advice it would be well-received.

BTW, The only reason I know it's an S8700 is because someone told me. Is there anything in the software that identifies it as such? In the Definity systems you could do a list config software and it would tell you the system type, as it would at the logon screen. Anything comparable?

Thanks in advance,
Arch

It doesn't work on either account.

If you type "print" then it tells you that it's going to use the "revised" command and sends the same command minus the "print"

as for list config software, It just tells me a G3V12 number (Doesn't even TELL me that it's CM2.1!)

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,
Arch

so what application are you using to access the PBX?

One that's written in-house here at my company. We're attempting to get all pertinent data from the PBX and put it into a database for a customer. With older Definities we use the "print" versions of the commands to capture the info to files so that a computer can automatically download everything. With the S8700 we're having some trouble.

Do you need to document this switch all the time?

If you just need to do this once, go to and download the Call Flow Extract (there is a 10 day trial). We use the program called DocIt that comes with it, and it can download all of your switch configurations into an html and text file.

Good luck!

Can the Call Flow Extract program communicate via PPP?

I'll need to do this multiple times for a couple different customers. That's why we're trying to write a program to automate it. Looks like there's already one out there. Hmm....

Thanks

Can you have someone just a script to get into the switch and pull the data? Provision is an automated tool to capture data. I don't what the costs are but it works great. It will capture whatever you want. Also If you want to know if you are in an S8700 or not type "go shell". If you drop to a linux prompt you're an S8700 if not, a good old G3
