Is their a way to create two printer shares that point to the same printer but have different default settings?

We have a black/White and Color Mutifuction device, copier/scanner/printer, and I want to create two shared printers called B/W and on Color pointing to one device, but one selected it will print in black/white or color depending the shared printer selected.

I was able to create the shared printers but when i change the default setting they do not stick. They revert back to the Out-Of-The-Box settings.

Even if I do not create the duplicate shared printed the setting do not stick.

I want to set the default settings on the print server so they change on my end users computers who have added the network printer on their computers.

Any help is appreciated.

Unless I am missing something here, let me use this as an example.

Print Server 1.

Printer A

Settings\Printers\Add Printer (use LPT1)

- choose HP---then Model laserjet 6p
- name it
- configure it
- send it to you users.

Printer B

Settings\Printers\Add Printer (again use LPT1)

- choose HP---then Model laserjet 6p
- name it something different
- configure it
- send it to you users.

The only thing that changes is the printer name, and settings that you assign between the two. You could have applied the same scenario with a TCP/IP, USB, printer.

PS- I say "send to users" meaning through group policy, if you do not use GP in your domain, then share it out or hit the print server from its IP in order to add to the client.
