I need to move some T1s and associated DS1s around in PBX trunk group. May need to busy out DS1s to be able to move them within trunk group. 2 of the 4 circuits/ds1s have been designated as primary and secondary synce sources; 1c15 and 1c09. What, if any, are the repercussions of busying out (briefly) one of these sync sources? Does it impact any other T1s/DS1s in EPN 1? Thanks for any info.

As long as the other sysnc source is available you should be okay. You can do 'status sync' to see which source that you are taking timing from. You may have to 'disable/enable sync' to force it to change back to the primary synce source.

Thanks - what would happen though if both primary and secondary busied out in error? What does it impact? Thanks again

You may get some noise on digital circuits. FAX machines and modems will be more affected than stations.

Just don't busy them both at the same time and you'll be fine. In theory your network can be unstable without an external sync source - I've seen all trunk groups in the switch crash, but I've not seen that happen on an Avaya. If the outage were brief it might not be service affecting.

In terms of best practices you might want to check how you're set up for synchronization. If one source is a Verizon local T, for example, you might want to have the other be an AT&T LD, just to get carrier diversity. That is assuming you have multiple trunk groups, carriers, etc.

You can also use the command set sync to change the sync source
