This might be a stupid question but I have to ask. Has anyone tried to set up a table using multiple fileds to create a unique key even though one column that is being used has a value in some records and blank in others?

I have a stong feeling this would not be possible. Although I've not tested it, I would think that access would not treat nulls as "unique values" which are critical to a Primary key.

What you want is impossible, you Indexes and primary keys cannot contain null values

An easy way to "fake out" this requirement for a data value is to create a default value of "unknown" or some such literal in the table definition for the key-part field that you will need.
