I have a Gigabyte mainboard with a hard drive and a Cdrom 0n one IDE and a hard drive and a cd burner on the other.Occasionly when I boot up i get a yelo * by the side of primary IDE controller--Secondary IDE is OK.re-boot usually solves this problem.but i would like to know why?

Hi Bilko
A couple of days and still no answers! Well I had the same problem with a GA 686BX Motherboard running a P11-266 CPU.
I searched the Net without success! I tried moving to Win ME, but the same problem existed.
I resoved this problem by upgrading and passing my Gigabyte system on to my son who is not so inquisitive as I am!! Nice Christmas present, yes?
I will watch for informative replies with interest.
Regards

There are a couple possibilities I can think of. If you have one or both devices set as cable select or you have a bad IDE cable you can get the yellow explanation mark. You could also try changing the bios to user type HDD instead of auto, if you have not already. You could also experiment by changing the CDROM to the secondary controller temporarily. See if the problem moves to the secondary controller :)
