For those have you who have gone through a few projects, what have you found to be the best pricing technique for a website that is medium in size and dynamic in asp / mysql.

I guess i'm part of the "don't drop your prices for HTML/CSS work" Camp.

Why, every Tom, Dick and Josephine knows how to code HTML, they also know every way to fu*k it up.
If you want quality you pay for it.

A client has the option of going for a $10/hr designer who might churn something out in Frontpage, or they can pay $30/hr to a designer who will code quality work.
I know which I would choose! At the end of the day I want a job done right.

I also agree that it's time that you should be paid for. If something is difficult (database work etc) then it takes longer, but I don't really see why someone should get paid more for a page produced in PHP rather than HTML/CSS.
Time is money!

What if a site should be done in something like PHP but can also be produced with just HTML, will a client request the site be done in HTML cos it's $20/hr cheaper? it may take you as long, in fact it might even be more awkward to create
as you lose the site-maintenance-speed-benefit of server side technologies.
Just a thought!

I think you should be able to charge more for something done in a dynamic scripting language because, you can make the site editable for the client and go farther then html.

The client won't request html, if you can show them why a dynamic language would be more valuable to them.

[lol] Wait till you start getting some clients, you will change your mind.

You can try to explain something to a client, you cannot force them to understand.

A lot of clients will go simply for the cheapest option.

Hope this helps

I have to laugh at that one too.

I just got off the phone trying to explain how domain names work for their new hosting services and why the name doesn't change. [hammer]
Then I just thought of explaining something like a reg in javascript to them I got a bit sick
