Folks,

I'm trying to find out how hard it is to convert 6 analog DID's and 5 analog COT's over to a PRI. I'm not an SL-1 guy so please dumb this down as much as possible. I have a dual PRI card in Core 0 which has our two current PRI T-1's on them now and I have a Dual PRI card in Core 1 that has nothing on it. I'm just trying to figure out how difficult the NARS/BARS is and if this is something I should attempt or contract out. ANY..and I mean ANY info is greatly appreciated.

The inital issue I can see here would be your'D'channel availability and the configuration
including PRI channel members and route/s, Dchannel's can be either onboard your Dual PRI card
or separated to be cabled out to an MSDL Card 4 ports

Cheers!!

If you are not familiar with programming routes, trunks, rli's and BARS then definitely hire this one out.

The site is about an hour away...so I can't just take a peek to see how everything is wired. I do know that the existing PRI's are plugged into the Dual PRI card via and RJ-11 line cord. I haven't been there in a while..so this is off the top of my head.

If your circuits are not particularly busy, you can have the telco move all the POTS DID lines over to the existing PRI's, they would just move the numbers and in theory you would have no programming to do at all.
The COT's, you would have to determine what they are being used for. That will be a little more complicated. Start by going to LD 21 and do an LTM (not print) Cust 0 (typically) and enter through. This will print out all route members on all routes, hopefully you can tell what belongs where. Once you determine what routes they belong to you can work back until you find what points at them.
LD 21 LTM Find the route number
LD 86 PRT / RLB / RLI entering nothing at the RLI prompt will print everything, this may be a lot of information, so start by entering 0, if you do not see the ROUT # print the next (1) and so on
LD 90 PRT / NET / AC1 / NXX (look for RLI )this will print out all you NXX number and is most likely what uses the circuits. If you do not find it you can do the same again and substitute NPA for NXX. and see if you can see it. Again, a lot of information, so if you can copy this all to a file, if might make things easier for you.
This is the more difficult direction to be able to connect the dots, if you know the number you are dialing, doing this procedure in reverse is much easier because you know what you are looking for at each step.
It is possible these are set up only for emergencies and you may not need them at all.
I REALLY HOPE THIS HELPS! and does not confuse you too much.

Those RJ-11 line cords are wired to the clock controller. Your PRI circuit will be wired to the back plane with an RJ-45.

Thank you all for the info. I can't have the Telco move the DID's over to the existing PRI because those two PRI are simply Tie trunks between my CO and that one. The only thing the COT's and DID's are used for are local calls to/from that area. All other calls route through the tie trunks and are routed through my switch here where I am. I guess I need to make a trip so I can get a visual of how everything is, but the NAR/BARS is where my lack of knowledge is going to get the best of me. I'm still taking all this info in...so keep it coming. Thanks again.

You should not have to mess with NARS/BARS if you point your new PRI Route out the same RLI as the existing COT circuits.

@hawks..will it ask for me for the RLI while I'm building the PRI? The thing I'm concerned with is, half of the T-1 is going to be for the DID's and the other half for the COT's..or do you just build the new PRI as a two-way? Will I have to do any routing for the incoming DIDs. I need to log in remotely to that switch and see how stuff is going now, it might give me a better understanding.

You state:
"I can't have the Telco move the DID's over to the existing PRI because those two PRI are simply Tie trunks between my CO and that one"

What actual traffic is going over these circuits? If they are going to the C.O. that is where the DID's are coming from, why not put them all on the same circuit?

You really need to find out from the carrier how they are provisioning it. Most people nowadays will just have 23 2-way channels on their PRI.

@Trvlr1..this is a remote site in a different area code. All calls made locally here to there go through my DID's and get routed through my switch via the Tie trunks. The only thing the DID's and COT's are used for down there are local calls to and from that area. Hope that makes sense. Since we own the DID range that the remote switch uses, and they are all routed here, the local carrier down there gave us a similar range of numbers out of that area code and we have routing set up to take that incoming call and point it at. Pretty much since that switch is in a different area code, the people locally down there dial and whole different area code and prefix than I would if I call them from here. It's really messed up. But in a nutshell, the DID's and COT's down there are for local calling only.

@KCFLHRC..I'm pretty sure they are making them 23 2wy, but I didn't see an option when building a PRI for two way in the M1. I saw Tie,DID....and what not, but nothing for two way. With my lack of knowledge..I was just gathering what I could from reading different things and I"m sure there is a way to do it.

When you said they went to the C.O. (central office) I made the assumption they were regular PRI to the PSTN. Obviously not.
When building your PRI and setting up usage on them, one thing you will have to do is set up a route, within the route programming is an option that allows 2 way calling:

ICOG IAO (in coming / out going = in and out)

Based on the fact that the existing PRI's are point to point circuits, I would recommend getting a vendor in to set up any new PRI and route you might have to the Telco. In your current set up, you do not have anything to reference to make sure you are headed in the right direction.

Thanks for the input..After everything I've read and from what you guys have told me, I'm contacting vendors. There are just to many things I would have to 'guess' at or have some trial and error, and being for the military, those aren't good options. Thanks again to all of you for the input.

You mention that you want to convert 6 analog DID's and 5 analog COTs over to your PRI.

These all have their own numbers associated w/ them (The 6-Analogue DIDs and the COTs), so just tell your local provider to place these on the PRI.

No need to touch Nars, Bars, RLIs or anything. The local provider handles all.
