I was checking the status of a few systems this morning, just to make sure that there is nothing wrong with them, and on one I noticed that it has had several "Red Alarm" alarms on a PRI. I'm not familiar on what a Red Alarm is, is anyone else? What about yellow and blue? I don't have yellow or blue right now, but I do anytime the system restarts.

It also has an equal number of "8kHz clock source changed" alarms.

Are these alarms anything to worry about? Is it because of some of my settings, or the telco?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

This sounds like your PRI circuit is dropping

From experiance this is almost always a problem with the networl provider.

I belive by default the PRI is getting clocking from the network (ie the provider).. So, anytime the PRI drops the clocking drops and that is your 8hz alarms..

You should verfiy your setting with provider and ask them to monitor the PRI and isolate why it is dropping

Every reboot gives this alarm but will be black when it is working again

You are definitely having T1 problems. As everyone has suggested, it is most likely the carrier but occasionally it can be a hardware or wiring issue. See the alarm definitions below:

Red Alarm

A Red Alarm is a local equipment alarm, indicating a loss of signal for several seconds or more. The red alarm will show up visibly on the equipment, typically with a red LED. Once a Red Alarm condition occurs, the local equipment will begin transmitting a Yellow Alarm signal to the remote end of the circuit.

Yellow Alarm
A Yellow Alarm indicates a T1 network failure has been detected by one or both ends of a T1 circuit.

Blue Alarm
A Blue Alarm indicates the absence of incoming signal on the T1 circuit. Equipment transmits an “all ones” pattern to attempt to maintain synchronization on the circuit.
