When I boot my PC. the message "Pri.Master Disk HDD S.M.A.R.T capability... disabled" apeared. But there's nothing that I can find bad in my PC. It boot fine & work fine.
But why do I keep getting this message? Can I correct this? I have a P4 2.8 PC with 512MB RAM & Win XP pro installed. The motherboard is a Gigabyte one.

This message does not mean that there is anything wrong.

You can enable or disable the S.M.A.R.T. checking in the bios.

S.M.A.R.T. is an anacronym for Self Monitoring And Analysis Technology. If enabled, a S.M.A.R.T. capable hard drive can report any known error conditions to the motherboard BIOS, which can then report the error condition to you during the P.O.S.T. (Power On Self Test) sequence, before any disk access occurs and any operating system is started. The theory behind this is that the Hard Drive's firmware should be able to detect drive problems before they result in signifigant data corruption, so that you can back-up any drive contents and replace the drive before it fails and data is lost.

To enable the S.M.A.R.T. monitoring feature of your motherboard, you will need to located and change the setting in your system BIOS (CMOS) settings. As every make and model of motherboard is different, you will need to check the manual for your motherboard to know where this setting can be found. Or, if you are comfortable with your BIOS settings, have a look around and see if you can find it. On newer GigaByte motherboards, you may need to press 'CTRL-F1' at the main BIOS menu in order to display the normally hidden advanced options.
