IPO 9.0.5 running on a 500 V1 box. The licensing shows the system has 48 Universal PRI licenses. In the System Status, it does show 48 under the available instances column but it shows only 30 in the number of licenses used column.

What's the difference between those two columns? SS Help is useless! Does it mean that even though I have 48 licensed channels I can only take 30 simultaneous calls? I have 2 PRIs and both are working fine.......I think!

I'm on site right now so if someone knows the answer, I would really appreciate a quick response.

Thanks.

48 is the number a channels you are licensed for. 30 is what you are using now.
You must be in the UK because 30 is an odd number in the U.S. unlesss you have a partial T1.

It's only dialtone!!!

Not in the UK......am located in Canada and this system has 2 full PRI's.

I'm curious to know what happens when there are 30 active calls and someone tries to make an outbound call.

If a caller tries to make a call, and all license/Pri channels are all ready consumed, User will hear beep-beep-beep, on their phone, and "waiting for line" will be displayed. Once a license/channel is cleared, the call will go through.

Thanks Andre. I'm still confused as to why there are 48 licenses but can only use 30.

Any idea what's with the missing 18?

you have 2 PRI's that means you got total 30+30=60 channels & you got license for 48 channels. Are you using both Pri's at same time ??

Yes, both PRI's are being used but we are in Canada where we have 23B channel PRIs not 30.

You get 8 channels for "free" on each PRI card, if you want to use more than 8 channels per card you need the licenses.

Therefor you are using (23x2)-(8x2) = 30 licenses since 16 are free. Don't know why someone bought 48 =)

One has to ask what reseller sold them 48 channels without briefing them on how the license count works.

SSA shows channels including the 8 for free.
What's the trunk usage showing on each line?

If you have 2 x PRI-S-U, take a look in the channel setting on the Line (Manager).
Are they 15 each or maybe 22 on one - 8 on the other, other mix's?
Put them both to 24 ch (or 23 ch if that's the max you get out of each)

Kind regards

Gunnar

He's looking under licenses in SSA (which don't show the free channels) so if that says he's using 30 instances he already has it set to 23 channels each.

Thanks Janni, that makes sense and adds up perfectly.

Pmcook, we didn't sell them their original system but whoever did made some good money on it.......or they didn't understand the licensing either.
