Previous domain registrants - whowas?

Is it possible to find out who held the registration for a domain that has expired? Is this archived anywhere? The domain is registered to a new party but I am interested in finding whowas (previously 'whois') the previous registrant.

I am investigating a domain that was recovered from a company that is in a similar business as ours. The new registrant has copied a page directly from our site without permission. The new registrant has registered through a third party so their contact information is not valid in whois. Finding the previous registrant info may get me closer to knowing who the current registrant is.

I would start by contacting the domain registrar in question.

I might also take the IP address of the web site in question and perform an IP whois lookup with ARIN. That will get you closer to the offending party's ISP, which you might contact for help. Want the best answers? Ask the best questions:
