Google Apps for Your Domain 1

1) "Google Apps for Your Domain" will provide hosting for your company's domain. Does this spell the end of Microsoft's Exchang+Outlook franchise in the next 5 years?

2) If google then add the Office package such as Word and Excel, does that also spell then end Microsoft's Office?

Alex, I'm an administrator by trade. I don't own stocks of either. Technology companies and what they provide are my interest. I'm merely speculating the sheer force of Google's influence in the technical world.

Personally I embrace competition. In this case, I suspect Microsoft will counter Google by coming up with their own online version of "microsft office" free to the public. And companies will have to purchase the traditional installation package if they want something more powerful.

As it stands, what Google has thus far, are very basic and tuned to the small companies and basic office management needs. But you cannot deny, given time, Google will offer better options and more power packages. I'm sure Microsoft is feeling this trend. All thanks for market competition.
