This is my problem. I have a Windows ME machine. I have had to reinstall it 5 times in 8 months because my kid keeps downloading files infected with virus'among other things. I would like to discourage him from doing this. Telling him to quit has not worked.

I would like to prevent downloads or if not, at least prevent him from installing what he downloads. If there is some registry change or program I can purchase I'd love to know.

Thanks

Max

Why not set it so that you have to manually type in the password to connect to the internet. If he doesn't stop installing stuff, don't give him the password...

No real security in W98, if you had either W2K or XP you could create a simple user account for them which you could stop installs from being permitted.
You should be running a good anti-virus which should be updated regularily and it would stop infected programs from being installed. Zone alarm also has a built in install check that will stop an install with a suspected Trojan.

Thanks all. I am using IE 5.5. I disabled downloads, and installed Windows Security Manager 6.0, which gives him a logon and permissions. I am set now.
