Preventing BPDUs from traversing Trunk 1

Hi List,

We have a 2800 router with SVI interfaces. We are using two of the HWIC SVI interfaces to access an MPLS network in trunk mode. The trouble is that BPUS are traversing from one VLAN+fa0/0/0 trunk to another VLAN+fa0/0/0 trunk.

We have discovered that BPDUs are crossing from one part of the MPLS to the other causing problems.

Is there any way of preventing BPDU's from being propagated across the trunk links?

Would disabling spanning tree be the answer?

You can make the switch that has been elected as the root bridge with a priority of 1, which would force it to become the root bridge in the tree, thus stopping other switches that come online from generating bpdu's. Another solution would be to use rapid spanning-tree, but partial bpdu's would still be generated.
If your switches are not in a redundant configuration, then you should shut off spanning-tree, or just shut off spanning-tree in non-redundant switches, like the two "edge" switches that trunk the VLANs.
