Frustratingly, there doesn't seem to be an option anywhere to prevent the mouse from bringing the machine out of standby. For example, under keyboard in control panel I can find a power management tab with the option, but not for the mouse. I'm tired of having to tiptoe by the machine to keep it from jolting awake. Any ideas?

in Control Panel - Mouse - Hardware - Properties - Power Management - Click the box to allow the Mouse to arouse from Standby.

however, if you are talking about the Screensaver i think you will need to continue tiptoeing

Nope, not talking about screen saver :) The problem is that no power management tab exists under mouse. Perhaps the one under keyboard controls both mouse and keyboard? In which case darn. Thanks anyway.

Upade the mouse driver from the manaufacturer's web site; or usually the Microsoft Intellimouse driver works with just about any mouse: "Microsoft Hardware announces the first Universal application version of IntelliType Pro and IntelliPoint software."

Just pick a mouse version that most closely resembles your own.
